An introductory survey of American literature from the 17th century through the 19th century, including poetry, fiction, prose, and drama by major authors such as Edger Allen Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Walt Whitman.
