Description

HIM 1800 F INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT I (3) 3 hours per week Co-requisite: CGS 1100 This course is designed to introduce students to the principles of health information management. It provides an overview of the evolution of health care delivery systems, health-related associations, organizations and agencies in the United States, as well as the history of the health information management profession. The development, content, and management of the hospital medical record will be discussed. Students will be introduced to forms design, filing methods, storage and retention, coding and classification systems, indexes, health information in reimbursement, health care information, and the impact of technology on health information processes.
