Then join us in celebrating the 54th Birthday of Earth Day (ok, actually it's an “Anniversary”...) on April 22 with a clothing swap! SWAP FOR THE EARTH – an Earth Day event at OUR school where students can bring clothes they no longer want and exchange them for new ones!
Did you know that the fashion industry is one of the most destructive on the planet. Fast fashion companies in particular embrace a business model of planned obsolescence, pumping out clothes that — though inexpensive — are cheaply made and designed not to last. And the numbers are staggering: Fashion produces as many as 100 billion garments a year, of which 87% end up in a landfill or an incinerator and only 1% actually recycled.
Grappling with the colossally negative impacts of the fashion industry is daunting. But research supports that by adopting sustainable shopping habits like swapping or thrifting, you CAN make a substantive difference!
We need systemic change – and that change always starts with someone who dares to step up and take action – and that someone is YOU!
